Eliminating the High School Graduation Proficiency Test in New Jersey

Description

For decades, New Jersey high school students have been required to pass a statewide graduation proficiency test to earn their diplomas. However, Assembly Bill A4121 proposes eliminating this requirement, arguing that standardized tests do not always reflect student learning or future success. Instead, local school districts would determine proficiency based on their own academic standards.

Supporters believe this change would create a fairer system, recognizing that GPA is a stronger predictor of college success than test scores. Opponents worry that removing the requirement could lower educational standards and accountability.

This poll’s results will be updated on a weekly basis. Last update on Saturday, March 22nd.
